Indore Marathon
When violence rocked Indore and other Indian cities in July 2008, IIM Indore realised there was more it could do than be a mute spectator. Thus was born the idea of a Marathon for Peace. And what better day for the event than the birth of Mahatma Gandhi. The Indore Marathon brings together people from all walks of life and stirs the conscience of every citizen, encouraging them to reach out for a cause. Each participant who decides to spend this holiday running the streets of Indore with his fellow citizens is reaffirming his commitment towards mutual affection, tolerance and peaceful co-existence.
A marathon epitomizes endurance, strength, character and above all togetherness, but here it is a community event in its truest form. From tiny tots to octogenarians, the event has captured the imagination of the masses and everyone from school kids to corporates to army personnel turn up for the run. The spirit of sportsmanship, camaraderie and resilience that is on display as Indoreans take to the streets in droves is proof enough that this city believes it can make a difference. And with IIM Indore stepping up each year to organise the event, the message of peace will continue to ring loud and clear.
