The history of IIT Guwahati traces its roots to the 1985 Assam Accord signed between the AASU and the Govt. of India, which mentions the general improvement in education facilities in Assam and specifically the setting up of an IIT.
IITG was established in 1994 by an act of parliament and its academic programme commenced in 1995. IITG admitted its first batch of students into its Bachelor of Technology programme in 1995.IIT Guwahati functions completely in a state of the art and generously endowed campus both in infrastructure and natural beauty. The campus of IITG is situated on the northern banks of Brahmaputra and abuts the North Guwahati town of Amingaon. The IIT continues to develop and diversify each year, while maintaining its stated aim of improving standards in education and research.

Admission for M.Tech,ME,Assistantship for relevant Doctoral Programs.
Eligiblity
A bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/technology/architecture/pharmacy(4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes
Master's degree holders in any branch of Science/mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year os such programmes.
Candidates in the second or higher year of the four-year integrated Master's degree programme(Post-B.Sc) in Engineering/ Technology or in the third or higher year of five-year integrated Master's degree programme and dual degree programme in engineering technology
candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognised by UPSC/AICTE(e.g AMIE) as equivalent to B,E/B.Tech.
Duration of exam:3hrs.
JEE
Admission for B.Tech,B.Arch.
Eligiblity
Candidates who have secured 60% (5% relaxation for SC/ST/PD) marks in aggregate in their respective board examination are eligible for the test.
The JEE will be a single objective type examination which will test the comprehension and analytical abilities of students.
JMET
Admission for MBA (in all IIT's)
Eligiblity
Candidates with B.E./ B.Tech. or equivalent with first class or equivalent from a recognized Institution
or University OR a Master's degree or equivalent in any discipline with first class or equivalent from a recognized Institution
or University are eligible to apply. Students in their final year of qualifying degree course are also eligible to apply. Such candidates, if selected, will be admitted provisionally, provided they complete all requirements for the qualifying degree
Joint Admission Test -JAM:
Admission for M.Sc,MCA,M.Tech in IIT's
Eligiblity
JAM qualified candidates shall have to fulfill the following eligibility criteria for admissions in IITs.
• At least 55% aggregate marks (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) for General/OBC Category candidates and at least 50% aggregate marks (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) for SC/ST and PD Category candidates in the qualifying degree. For candidates with letter grades/CGPA (instead of percentage of marks), the equivalent percentage of marks will be decided by the admitting institute(s). Available Seats

Eligiblity
Candidates who have passed 10+2 or equivalent or appearing in 2009, with a minimum 60% marks in aggregate [55% in case of SC/ST and persons with physical disability (PD)]
They must not have been born earlier than 1st October 1984 (for SC/ST/PD categories 1st October 1979)

Programmes of Study and Eligibility Requirements
B.Tech - 4 yrs & B.Des
Candidates who have passed the final examination under the 10+2 system or its equivalent (or) a pass in the three year diploma in Engineering and who have been placed in the final merit list in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). JEE is a must for foreign national students also.
M.Tech - 2 yrs
Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology / Architecture or equivalent or a Mater's degree in Mathematics / Physics / Life Sciences / Related Subjects and a valid GATE score (for students who got degree from India).
M.Sc - 2 yrs
Bachelor's degree (a three year B.Sc. degree after 10+2) in Chemistry/Mathematics/Physics with first class or at least 60% of aggregate marks or equivalent and qualify in Joint Admission Test (JAM) (for students who got degree from India).
Ph.D - 2 - 5 yrs
Master's degree in Engineering/Technology with a good academic record or a Master's degree by Research in Engineering/Technology with a good academic record. Master's degree in Sciences with a good academic record and of exceptional merit where eligible, for the relevant Engineering discipline and a valid GATE score or qualified in NET (CSIR/ UGC)/NBHM/JMET/CAT/AIMA or equivalent. (for students who got degree from India)
