Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat (NIT Surat) is one of the 20 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) established in India in June 1961. It is named after India's first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. This institute was upgraded to a National Institute of Technology as per the NIT Act .
The college has a campus of over 1 km˛ (250 acre) of land on the Surat-Dumas Highway, in the city of Surat, Gujarat in the area known as Ichchhanath, about 10 km from the Surat Railway Station. It was earlier called Sardar Vallabhbhai Regional College of Engineering and Technology (SVRCET). This institute offers seven undergraduate courses of Bachelor of Technology in various disciplines like Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Electronics, Chemical, Computers and Production Engineering. It also offers postgraduate courses in Environmental engineering, Structural engineering, Water-resources engineering, Turbomachines,
Mechanical, Electronics and Chemical Engineering. Some candidates are also pursuing PhDs.
