ATHENAEUM
It is the student body, in Madras Institute of Technology campus, Anna University, Chennai which acts as a liaison between students and the management in MIT.
The word Athenaeum is deom the Greek word Athena, meaning Goddess of wisdom. Apart from presiding over the routine student activities, Trived fream Athenaeum makes it a point to serve the society through timely response to social causes- Athenaeum has left its foot prints in funding for revival of cancer patients, donation for Tsunami affected victims, heart foundation etc. As a cultural society, it functions to shape the latent talents of students by conducting talent search inside the campus and training them in dance and music.
INCEPTION
Mr. N Srinivasan a specialist in the field of Aeronautical Engineering and a former Deputy Chief Engineer of the HAL, Bangalore, took over the reins of the Director from Mr. M K Ranganathan in the year 1954, who by then, by his selfless hard work had paved the way for the institute's glorious path. Mr. Srinivasan further developed the Faculty of Aeronautical Engineering and went one step further, by establishing the Atheneaum, an official forum for cultural and extra-curricular activities in MIT.
