UGC Post Graduate Merit Scholarship Scheme for University Rank Holders at Undergraduate Level for academic session 2009 - 11.

The University Grants Commission, on the basis of a initiative of Ministry of D, had introduced from the year 2005 - 2006, UGC PG Merit Scholarship Scheme for University rank holders.

In General and Honours Courses at Undergraduate levels with the objective of attracting talents for pursuing postgraduate studies in basic subjects.

The scheme is for non-professional courses only. The selection will be purely on merit basis.

The awardees under this scheme can pursue their Post-Graduate program in any area of specialization as also in any institution of higher learning in the country recognized by UGC under Section 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act.

UGC Post Graduate Merit Scholarships is exclusively for the aforesaid courses only. Professional Courses candidates are not eligible for this scholarship. Main / Major subjects will be treated under Honours subjects.

UGC PG Merit Scholarships - Eligibility:

- While in General Courses (S. No. 1,2 & 3) the First & Second Rank holders at under-graduate level in the above mentioned specified degree only admitted in any Post-Graduate course would be awarded this scholarship.

- In Honours Courses (S. No. 4 to 21) scholarship will be awarded only to the First Rank Holder.

- These awardees will have to submit the proofs of their merit position at undergraduate level in University as well as their admission in first year of Post-Graduate course during academic year 2009-10.

- The scholarship would however, be subject to securing a minimum of sixty percent marks at undergraduate level.

- The rank holders would be considered only from those universities (including affiliated colleges) wherein at least 1000 students have appeared in the examination in the General courses and 100 in Honours courses at undergraduate level in the aforesaid program.

Other Conditions:

- An eligible candidate who is awarded the Post-Graduate Scholarship will not be debarred from accepting any other Scholarship.

- Students desirous of leaving the studies mid-way without completing the PG degree will have to take prior approval from the UGC by submitting an application along with justification through the concerned University/College/lnstitution.

- The University/College/lnstitution will have to submit a certificate of completion of the PG Course in respect of each student availing this scholarship.

Documents to be submitted at the time of application:

- Application in prescribed format.

- Proof of admission to Master's degree course in a recognized Indian University/College/lnstitution.

- Matriculation Certificate clearly indicating the age of the Candidate.

- Joining Report from the institution where the candidate has taken admission for P.G. Course (Annexure-I).

- University Rank Certificate, if issued by University.

- UGC format regarding University Rank at U.G. Level (Annexure-ll).

UGC PG Merit Scholarships - Procedure for Application:

Eligible students who are pursuing postgraduate 1st year course in any of the Non-Professional Course in the current year, i.e. 2009-2010 may submit their application for the above scholarship in prescribed format alongwith all relevant attested copies of documents.

The application may be submitted within 30 days from the date of publication of this advertisement in Newspapers.

Application received after the due date will not be considered. Those who had applied earlier need to apply afresh in response to this advertisement, if they had taken PG admission in the year 2009-10.

Candidates are advised in their own interest to read guidelines for the scheme which are available on UGC website before submitting application.

Envelops containing application should be prominently marked as "Application For Pg Merit Scholarship For University Rank Holder(2009 - 11).

(a) Candidate must have the First or Second rank at University level General Courses. In these examinations the candidates must have the combined common university rank among all the category of candidates with different combination of subjects, If any, prevailing in the university system.

(b) Candidate must have the First rank at University level and not at individual college rank in the following subjects Honours Courses.
